Hi! Leuk dat je kijkt op mijn site. Ik ben Josanne Naomi, een 23 jarige illustrator, kattenliefhebber en grafisch vormgever met een enorm hart voor creëren. Ik deel hier af en toe wat ervaringen en hopelijk inspiratie.

International women's day! . Ik ben een beetje zie

International women's day!
.
Ik ben een beetje ziekjes daarom is deze post iets later dan normaal (en moet ik nog allemaal mensen terugmailen/dmen) maar IK MOEST vandaag even iets doen met deze speciale dag.
Er zijn zoveel vrouwen die mij constant inspireren; vriendinnen, familie, girl bosses, andere creatievelingen en ik ben zo dankbaar om in een tijd te leven waarin vrouwen (ondanks dat alles nog steeds niet even eerlijk is..) gevierd kunnen worden.
Daarom nu even deze post met wat shout-outs. .
Ten eerste, meiden die dit lezen: jullie zijn mooi, geliefd, waardevol en belangrijk en de wereld is mooier omdat jij bestaat.
.
Vervolgens alle lieve #wijzijnlume ladies. Ik ben dankbaar dat er iets bestaat om ons te inspireren een licht te zijn in onze wereld. Onlangs mocht ik werken aan een aantal illustraties voor het @sestraforyou & @wijzijnlume boek "kijk ons leven". Het lezen van de verhalen van andere vrouwen was zo enorm bemoedigend.
En ondernemers heldinnen @campbluff
@elinehoogenboom , ik bewonder wat zij doen en hoe hun missie is om andere vrouwen te empoweren. Ik ben dankbaar om jullie van een afstandje te mogen kennen.
En insta Friends @simplyarirenee @robin.mango @littlelight.anne @tailahj @g.cxsta who inspire others with their words and beautiful feeds.
Mijn chococake en schatjes vriendinnen (ik heb jullie al getagd op mijn persoonlijke account) die met me huilen en met me lachen en het durven te zeggen als ik domme dingen doe.
@studioannesara @ninamaakt @bladergoud @sam_loman die ontzettend toffe illustraties maken en me inspireren te doen wat ik wil doen.

N E W B L O G P O S T ✨ I remember being a little girl and my mom telling me about Joni Earecksons story, how she became paralyzed when she was 17 and started painting with her mouth and creating art and how strong she was in her faith. My mom heard that story when she was a young teen and it stuck with her, because why wouldn’t it. So when I went to the thrift store on a Saturday afternoon and browsed to the books saw the cover of “Joni” I instantly knew I had to pick it up and read it. Because well, I love stories and testimonies and stories about art and artists and how God uses that so it sounded like a good pick for me. I started reading it as soon as I could, despite not having read a full book in quite a while and barely could put it down. Reading this book helped me reflect on what was going on in my own life, as a young woman of faith. There's a full blogpost on my blog right now about how her story touched me. Link in bio.

𝐢 𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 that there's magic in the mundane, in the stories still untold. .
𝐢 𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 as I currently spend my time living from one deadline to the next. Waking up, eating, working, working on other projects and sleeping until it's time to repeat it all over again. For once I feel overwhelmed with everything I'm doing in a good way. I'm so proud of what I'm accomplishing and what I'm doing. I believe in my own work more than ever before. 2020 is the year where i go for it, dream big and know that some of those closed doors will open. .
𝐢 𝐚𝐦 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥. But in that business i miss some of the calm the previous seasons had. The new calm is that I'm content with where I'm at and I'm not worried. But the previous calm was that i had time to rest and create for myself without any stakes or deadlines. That I could wander around looking at people and things like they were all new stories waiting to be unpacked. As I am unfolding this new season of contentment and the progress I've been slowly making is finally catching up, I miss this sense of wonder. There still is enough hopefulness and wonderments to go around. I carry my notebooks and pens around. 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 for the rest of the season.

Lume bestaat vandaag 1 jaar en wat ben ik blij dat een organisatie zoals lume bestaat. Lume is licht, daarom deel ik vandaag deze illustratie met een lampje. #sharethelight Deze foto's zijn gemaakt voor mijn vorige stage bij een reclamebureau haha maar ik vind het enorm toepasselijk voor vandaag want zo deel ik mijn licht. Door mijn creativiteit mag ik mensen bemoedigen en als ik vertel wat ik maak, noem ik er af en toe ook lume bij omdat ze zo staan waarvoor ik zelf ook sta: vrouwen bemoedigen en inspireren om Gods liefde uit te dragen. #wijzijnlume omdat we een licht mogen zijn in onze eigen omgeving. I never really was someone who liked traveling, wh

I never really was someone who liked traveling, who liked to explore new things. The unknown can be a scary place. But it can also be mind-blowing. I love hearing stories, seeing the world through someone else's eyes.
A month ago I went on a little daytrip to a city I normally never go to. I took the day to not close myself off and put on headphones but fully experience it. I took my little sketchbook and drew everything I saw and all the people around me. It was a wonderful experience.
Later that week I went on an other little trip, and took the train to Berlin. I missed the train I was supposed to take and got really anxious. But that weekend ended up being amazing. It was like a little sleepover with friends, we went vintage shopping, watched some movies. My anxiety faded as soon as I walked into the city and made place for a new sense of wonder. I ended up writing 8 pages in my journal about those 3 days.
And of course now, sitting at the airport terminal, waiting to go home. I went to explore Sofia. One of my friends lives there and took us on a little tour of her city during her birthday weekend. We shared a lot of our food, to try as much new things as we could. And of course because the experience of sharing brings people closer together. We danced around screaming our favorite songs at the Airbnb, went through the mountains and just talked. About shared experiences, about our culture and about life in general. It's important to be willing to try things. To embrace life for a moment. I am waiting to go home, ready for the next adventures. 📷: @geripopova

It's been a while since I introduced myself here, if I ever actually did that. So, heyyy! My name is Josanne Naomi and here are some random facts about me. .
✌🏻✌🏻I'm 22 years old, which means I can scream the lyrics to Taylor Swift's 22 until October. Which I LOVE since I'm a huge swiftie and it's truly miserable and magical. .
🖌I graduate this year as a graphic designer and want to combine that illustration. My favorite thing is to create illustrations and I call myself lucky to be part of the #wijzijnlume team as illustrator. .
🗒️I never leave house without paper and pens, you never know when inspiration hits you or you wanna leave an encouraging note for someone else or doodle.
. 😻I love cats. So so so much. And baking. And country music. And chocolate. Did I mention I love cats???

I've been thinking a lot more about the dreams I h

I've been thinking a lot more about the dreams I have. I don't know what the future holds but for once I'm not worried. It's been scary, not fully knowing what's next and having the BIG dreams that I've had almost be in the past. There's so many projects and things I still want to do, but 15 year old me would be amazed at where I'm at now. But even from 21 to 22 my life has changed so much and I'm so content with where I'm at. I've looked back at things I was too scared to even hope for, as I currently see it unfolding right before my eyes. As I'm planning new dreams for the future, a song came on on spotify. "Dream Big" by @jamiegraceh . "I'm gonna tell what I gotta do to make my dreams come true; WORK HARD, PRAY MORE, DREAM BIG" and this is gonna be my motto for now. I don't know what the future holds, but I know whatever it is, I'm hopeful that I can do it. And I don't have to do it alone ✨

It's a new year, it's a new decade. I look back to

It's a new year, it's a new decade. I look back to a 2019 with high highs and low lows. But there was one constant: God who saw my hurts and joy and was there through it all. Especially in the last months. It's weird because this time I actually have no clue what the next months look like. All that uncertainty is a huge reason for a lot of anxiety I've been feeling. I've been so stuck in fear and exhaustion I barely had time to create. But on January first I actually started a new journal, filled with little doodles and places to write down the hope that sometimes gets overshadowed. The line "I don't know what the future holds, but I know You hold my future" comes from the song Let it happen by @switchfoot and has been stuck in my head with a lot of variations. I'm ready for new adventures. I'm ready for whatever comes because I know who is in control. And now I'm ready for my first small adventure, a weekend in Berlin 🙂

For the #sscpadvent I created this illustration. I always make little Christmas cards that I hand out on Christmas Eve at church to all my friends along with some freshly baked cookies. (The only difference is that the actual cards are blue), I'm supposed to get them in the mail today, just in time for Christmas. Anyways, it was a wonderful challenge to create from these verses. What a wonderful prophecy that came true. I filmed a part of my process which will be on my blog later today. Merry Christmas!

C H O S E N ⭐Misschien is een van mijn favoriete dingen van december wel dat het geoorloofd is om terug te kijken naar de afgelopen maanden. Naar alle hoogtepunten maar ook diepte punten. Ik denk dat het enorm belangrijk is om af en toe stil te staan bij waar je vandaan komt.
Ik doe niet echt aan goede voornemens aan het begin van het jaar. Wat ik wel doe is dat ik de tijd neem om te bidden en schilderen. Ik vraag God om een woord, iets dat betekenisvol mag zijn in het jaar dat voor me ligt, zodat ik aan het eind van het jaar kan terugkijken naar hoe dat woord vorm heeft gekregen in mijn leven. Maybe one of my favorite things of this time of the year is that it is totally acceptable to look back to all the past months. All the mountains and valleys of life. I think it's so important to look back to where you came from. I don't do new year's resolutions. Instead I take time to pray and paint. I ask God for a word that could be meaningful in the year that is ahead of me, so months later I can look back and see how it took shape in my life and see how faithful our God is. During these darker days I think a lot about light

During these darker days I think a lot about light. I kind of miss it. It's getting dark when I come home from work and I feel it slowly affecting my energy. But that also means I should make more time to seek light. To make time dwelling at the place of He who is Light. Jesus said himself "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12). It may be dark outside. But at least I know that where the light is, the darkness has to leave. So, make it a priority to know the Light of the World, so we can share the good news that light always wins.

Way-maker, miracle worker, promise keeper✨
For 2018 my big thing was that God is The Maker of my dreams and He will make a way for me to be exactly where i need to be. It was the theme in so many areas of life. But recently I keep getting reminded that He is a Promise Keeper. I have been scared to dream, eventhough i am a complete dreamer. I'm always scared I wouldn't be good enough to "succeed". I had a burnout when I was 15 and when I would get better I would study graphic design. Here I am, at the end of my study and it's time for new dreams. The future seems foggy. New dreams start to unfold but i keep wanting to wrap them up, scared of getting hurt because things don't go the way I hope. But then again, I hear that whisper "I am The Maker of your dreams, you'll be where I need you to be" and I can let go of my worries. Whatever happens, happens. It's scary, not knowing where to go next, but I have these dreams. And I have these promises. I'm gonna apply to some schools and I'm gonna continue to be filled with hope. Because He will make a way.

I think it's so human to hold on to past hurt. It took me years to let go of the biterness i created when i was bullied and everything was rough when i was young. Everytime i saw one of my part classmates in passing, that pain bubbled up and i felt like "they could've done something, they could've been there for me.. But they didn't". It took me 5 years to accept these scars and seeing it doesn't hurt anymore. It doesn't bring up the fear and rejection again.

Every now and again, I see my own hurt and i feel some biterness and anger, but i love to look at it like this: God as a loving father. He sees our hurt, He knows it will disappear. He gives us a hug, gives us a bandage and sends us out to go and play. It's easy to be mad at everything that has hurt us, but that isn't a solution. The scars will be there. But we won't be defined by our pain. We won't hold on to the past hurt because we can let our hearts be healed by The Healer. There may be brokenness in this world, but i rather see there is healing too. .

It's 4 years since I got baptized!! I don't know what else to write in the caption except that it's good to look back at the road you've walked. Not to be stuck on past fears or pain, but to see that God was close then and how He is there too now. Every step of the way. God never shows us the complete way because then we wouldn't need Him anymore and we could do everything ourselves. Or we would get so overwhelmed by what we're going to do in the future, that we can't do on our own. He might show us the next step. So we can slowly move forward with Him by outside. What a wonderful journey life can be.

It is well with my soul⭐ . You may know this hym

It is well with my soul⭐ .
You may know this hymn, but do you know the story behind it? Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn after a few traumatic events that happened in his life. He lost his son in the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, which also ruined his career because he lost a lot of his property in that area too. He and his family would travel to Europe but he got delayed and he sent his family ahead. But the ship with his family sank and all four of his daughters died. Only his wife surived. As he traveled to meet his grieving wife he wrote these words. "Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to know,
it is well, it is well with my soul" .
I know it's hard, but whatever happens, we may trust God. We may trust His plan and I hope that we all can sing, despite the chaos that it is well.
It can be easy to praise God on the mountain tops, but it's even harder to be surrounded by sorrow and still sing that God is holding you and He's taking care of you. But through it all, it is well. Always.

"Maar hoe is het verder met jou dan, mooie vrouw?"

"Het gaat vandaag wel goed! Ik heb net een paar slechte dagen/week gehad for no reason maar ik ben weer okay!"
"Ahh wat vervelend! Maar ook die dagen mogen er zijn! En ook dan ben je nog steeds waardevol en geliefd 💞
Hoe sta jij daar eigenlijk in? Ben je daar altijd bewust van? Dat God je lief heeft?"

Dit zijn een paar appjes die ik een poosje terug heen en weer appte met een vriendin. Ik had een pittige week achter de rug en had geen flauw idee waarom ik me zo voelde. Ik ben me er bewust van dat ook die dagen er mogen zijn en een slechte dag ook maar 24 uur duurt. Maar die laatste appjes zette me aan het denken. Ik voel me op dat soort dagen niet geliefd of waardevol. Ik weet in mijn hoofd dat dat wel zo is, maar ik voel het niet altijd in mijn hart. Op die waardeloze dagen is het zoveel makkelijker om jezelf ook waardeloos te vinden. Maar Gods liefde bedekt alles. Hij ziet de pijn en wil er juist voor ons zijn. En ons misschien zelfs herstel brengen. Geloven is niet altijd makkelijk of vanzelfsprekend. Maar op dagen zoals vandaag voel ik me juist extra geliefd omdat we bewuster stil staan bij het offer dat Hij ons heeft gegeven. We voelen het misschien niet altijd, maar ZO lief had de Vader ONS, ons gebroken mensen, dat Hij ZIJN eigen zoon gaf zodat wij Vrijheid mogen kennen. Jezus heeft geleden, nog erger dan het leed dat wij kennen. Jezus heeft overwonnen, zodat wij ook mogen delen in die overwinning. Zodat wij ons bewust kunnen zijn van die Liefde en dicht bij Hem mogen komen. Hij is waarlijk opgestaan! Fijn en geliefd Pasen💗

Er is een tijd voor alles, dit lezen we in Prediker 3. Ik denk dat iedereen wel een stukje herkent; “er is een tijd om te planten en om te oogsten. Er is een tijd om af te breken en een tijd om op te bouwen, om te lachen of te huilen. Er is een tijd om te omhelzen en een tijd om afstand te houden” zoals we dat momenteel doen. Het kan lastig zijn om te accepteren hoe de huidige situatie er uit ziet omdat we niet altijd een perspectief hebben van hoe het er hierna gaat zijn, of dat we langzaam weg voelen glippen hoe de tijd er uit zag die achter ons ligt. Soms is het lastig om nu het werk te steken in het planten van dingen waarvan je niet weet hoe lang het nog gaat duren voor je kan oogsten. Of om nu de deuren gesloten te houden en te moeten wachten tot het weer kan. Maar in prediker 3 staat ook in vers 11; “[Maar] Hij heeft het zó gemaakt, dat alles op zijn tijd goed is..” Dat maakt het leven nu niet dragelijker, want ik denk zelf dat het lastig is om te erkennen dat alles nu goed is.

Het is online vrouwenweekend bij mijn studentenvereniging. Het thema is Fierce, iets waar ik zelf niet heel veel mee heb. Ik zie mezelf niet echt als Fierce, ik kijk liever de kat uit de boom en de meeste van mijn dromen blijven dromen, denk ik. Het is zo makkelijk om jezelf niet te zien als iemand vol kracht, lijkt me... Ik legde alles klaar voor de dienst en zat met mijn benen onder me gevouwen op de bank met een kopje thee. Op een of andere manier ervaarde ik een rust die ik al een tijdje niet had gevoeld, terwijl ik luisterde naar mijn muziek. Het is zo makkelijk om jezelf verloren of zwak te voelen in periodes als deze. Het is zo makkelijk om te vergeten waar we onze kracht moeten zoeken. Ik merkte zelf dat ik dat zelf wel een beetje vergat. En toen kwam dit liedje. Als we ons zwak voelen mogen we vechten in een houding van overgave. Dan mogen we vechten in gebed. Onze kracht kunnen we vinden in Hem, in onze zekerheid als alles onzeker is. We hoeven geen muren om ons heen te bouwen om sterk te zijn, onze kracht zit juist in onze kwetsbaarheid. Juist in onze gebrokenheid mogen we ons overgeven dat we het niet zelf altijd krachtig zijn. En misschien is dat wel het grootste kenmerk voor ✨being fierce✨

I have come to believe almost everyone is a little anxious every day. But we learn not to talk about it. We learn to mask out worry and tie ourselves together with a smile.
I have come to believe everyone longs for peace, that unexplainable calm when we are at our sanctuary. The wind makes us feel untouchable yet so small when our tangled thoughts get the room to come undone.
I have seen the grey sky turn back to the lovelies hue of blue countless times. So I choose to believe it will happen again. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow. But here, at this hour, there is room for tangled thoughts.

Het is weer eind december, kerstvakantie en lockdown. Het voelt bijna onmogelijk om niet te reflecteren en vol nostalgie terug te kijken naar begin dit jaar, toen alles nog normaal leek.

Aan het begin van het jaar neem ik altijd de tijd om voorbede te doen voor het nieuwe jaar. Ik word stil en luister. En ik vraag God om een woord voor het nieuwe jaar, een les die ik mag leren, een woord dat mijn leven mag vormen door Hem heen. Afgelopen jaar deed ik dat ook, ik maakte dit keer geen bijbehorende illustratie maar ik kan mijn woorden gebruiken om een beeld te schetsen. Het is alsof we dansen in een storm, de straten zijn glad, maar ik val niet om. Ik vind het ergens wel bijzonder te zien dat ik bad voor iets dat zich mocht ontvouwen in mijn leven omdat ik wist dat ik in een onzeker seizoen zat. Begin dit jaar had ik geen idee hoe de periode van afstuderen er uit zag, laat staan wat daarna kwam! Dus ik werd stil, en luisterde.

Met de persco van deze avond begint een nieuwe onzekere periode. Een lockdown. Een maand waarin we ons al nieuwe normaal nogmaals moeten veranderen. Om me heen hoor ik angst, onzekerheid, bang voor wat dit doet voor onze mentale gezondheid. Tuurlijk is het belangrijk en ik ben zeker niet anti-lockdown. Maar ook ik ben bang om weer in die depressie te vallen. Zo'n lockdown doet me denken aan de periode dat ik geforceerd thuis zat met een burnout zo'n 5 jaar geleden. En ik hoor dit ook van anderen. We zijn bang voor die eenzaamheid.

Hoewel die periode dat ik thuis zat met burnout klachten de lastigste tijd was die ik ooit heb meegemaakt, bracht het me ook een paar goede dingen. Terwijl ik niemand had, mocht ik me gedragen weten. Ik voelde God zo dichtbij. Juist in die eenzaamheid. Ik leerde hoop te hebben. En hoewel ik me er van bewust ben dat dit een andere situatie is en ik weet dat dit anders is. Het is chaotisch, lijkt eindeloos en het is zo makkelijk de hoop te verliezen. Maar ik wil dat je weet dat je niet alleen bent. Je bent niet de enige die dit voelt. Let alsjeblieft op je eigen mentale gezondheid. Doe een stapje terug als je het nodig hebt. Durf mensen een berichtje te sturen (mijn dms zijn open) en probeer de kleine dingen te zien. Samen komen we er wel doorheen.

Ondanks alles, blijft de zon opkomen. Er is hoop als de wereld grijs is. Deze chaos houd een keer op en dan zal het licht doorbreken. Dan zal het helder zijn. Ook voor jou.
